Yokanga river – Salmon hunting for the experienced and committed Salmon angler

November 21st, 2010 - steffen

Salmon Junkies will be cooperating closely with the Flyfish Yokanga Group in 2011.

Yokanga River is the gem of all the northern rivers on the Kola Peninsula. Yokanga equals heavy current, big boulders, tough wading and monster salmon. The Yokanga River was the most recent of the Kola rivers to be opened for access to foreign fishermen, and it has some of the largest Atlantic salmon in the world. The impressive watershed cascades through a boulder strewn water course creating some of the most diverse and varied fly fishing water imaginable. It is almost as though a divine hand has plucked pools from salmon rivers around the world and redistributed them over this majestic river. Fishing the Yokanga River is a true adventure from the beginning to the end. The Atlantic salmon entering this river have been classified as the largest genetic strain on the Kola Peninsula by the local scientific organization PINRO (Polar Research Institute).

The main lodge at Yokanga was designed and built in Canada. It was disassembled, transported to the river and reconstructed on a bluff overlooking the Home Pool. There is an awe-inspiring view over 4 km of the river including Boulder Alley and the fabled Lyliok Pool. The lodge can accommodate 16 rods in a combination of double and single rooms, all with en-suite bathroom, power shower and 24-hour hot water. With a large light and spacious upstairs dining room and bar the lodge offers a comfortable and congenial area for enjoying the fine culinary offerings of the extensive kitchen. The bar has a number of different beers and wines available as well as high quality Russian Vodka.  2011 season dates are from June 11th to August 20th

Grimika Camp/Yokanga river lower section – Our base will be at the newly and substantially improved camp in the lower section of the Yokanga River. The Grimika Camp has a brand new communal ‘socialising house’ for dining and relaxing. Accommodation is in 6 comfortable twin tents with wooden floors, the tents are heated by electricity heaters. There will be one guide for every 2 rods with full exclusivity fishing. For the 2011 season we will have daily helicopter lifts to and from the beats during the entire week. Lower Yokanga beats has a large number of classic pools, as well as strong and unmerciful sections with rapids. Double handled rods and adequate big quality reels with plenty of 30 lbs. backing are a must here. We guarantee that hardcore salmon anglers will not be disappointed. Grab this remarkable opportunity and be the first in line to welcome the celebrated and awesome monster salmon of Yokanga!

2011 season dates are from June 4th to July 16th.
